Laos’s pristine landscape hosts a variety of flora and fauna, including rare primates, mammals and birds. Freshwater dolphins
can be found in the Mekong river. There is still some unexploded ordnance in the countryside, and official advice should be
taken about which areas to avoid.

The lack of cars makes cycling a good proposition. Terrain can be difficult, however, and there are not many roads. Visitors
are advised to bring their own bicycles, though there are some for hire in the larger towns.
