Accommodation

HOTELS/COTTAGES/GUEST HOUSES: There are comfortable hotels, cottages and guest houses (many constructed to accommodate foreign guests during the coronation of the present King in 1974). Hotels have hot and cold running water, electricity and room telephones. All hotels run by the Bhutan Tourism Corporation Limited are decorated in traditional Bhutanese style and are now equipped with international direct dial telephones and fax machines, and with clean bathrooms decked in a western style. Two new luxury hotels have also recently opened up for business. The Uma Paro Resort is situated high on a hill above Paro Valley in West Bhutan. Guests can indulge in yoga and relaxing treatments during their stay in one of the 29 lavish bedrooms on offer. It is serene accommodation for an elite market, with a vaguely monastic and meditative ambience. Also now open is the Amankova Resort, part of the Aman chain, which has a plain exterior that belies a sumptuous interior, where guests pay up to US$900 per night to luxuriate.
