Hotels

Comfortable hotels, cottages and guest houses (many constructed to accommodate foreign guests during the coronation of the present king in 1974) with hot and cold running water, electricity and room telephones are the norm. There are a few luxury hotels but these do not come cheap. The Uma Paro Resort is situated high on a hill above the Paro Valley and offers lavish bedrooms, yoga and relaxing treatments. The Amankora Resorts are a series of luxurious lodges spread across western and central Bhutan. They lack televisions and room service but more than compensate with wood-burning stoves, spa treatments and incredible vistas as standard. Tourists incorporating a trek in their itinerary may camp for a couple of nights. For further information, contact the BTCL (see Contact Addresses).
